|
|
Alright, we need a logo for the ArcLib, for a website and so I can purchase my own cafepress merchandise
OK, so I know designing a Logo /can/ be a lot of work, but being the lazy programmer I am, I came up with a couple of decent logos from http://cooltext.com/ using AlienGlow, Transparent PNG, and different colors and fonts. There are probably other logo generator sites out there as well.
I'd rather the logo be too big than too small.
Also, in this thread we can pick favorite colors and font's as well.
For the cooltext site, I like AlienGlow with different fonts and colors the best.
Also, no background images. The logo should convey simplicity and power, or just look darn cool.
Winner of the contest will become immortal.
Just to kick things off, here is a repo of logo styles I like...

Nice! May I ask, how did you make the logo?

The GIMP is my friend. http://gimp.org/
The "rcLib" is the "Slimania" font, and the "A with arc" is tossed together with GFig within GIMP. Growing/shrinking selection + gaussian blur + Alien Glow + inversion. _________________ Chris Nicholson-Sauls |

That's pretty good KlausO! The only thing I don't like about it is that B, because it doesn't really look like a B (it looks like an l to me) and the character has a sad face
Other then that, it's good. |

I like csauls' best so far. How would it look without the alien glow? I'm not fond of the black connections between letters.
The others are nice too. Skylar: Simple and clear is great, but why the apple? |

Thanks . Since the whole thing is a SVG vector graphic it's pretty easy to remove the critter in Inkscape and export a new PNG:
PNG
Inkscape SVG
BTW: The characters are from a pacman clone I had created for ArcLib1. Currently I try to do the transition to ArcLib2 and after that I will search a home for it. The code is small enough to be a sample for ArcLib usage. Would it be possible to integrate it into the ArcLib SVN tree ? |

My personal opinion is "yes, please"! Small, well written, documented and possibly even fun to play examples would be a welcome addition to arc's examples. I've recently written a small (two-player capable) bomberman clone that I hope to add as an arc example eventually - at the moment it's still seriously lacking the well-written and documented requirements.
The advantage of these over out-of-source documentation is that they're far easier to maintain, serve as a living example of what the library can do and can even be used as a testbed for library changes. For instance, we will probably check if the scenegraph simplifications 'work' by looking how much easier to understand the asteroids example becomes. |

Clay: I don't think we're going to get any more submissions. I think you should go ahead and choose one. |

I'm going to leave this thread open for last minute logo submissions... but I will start the selection process. |
