Hello! Now, I know this project just got added to dsource.org, but this game has already been under development for some time.

This game is a space simulator, much like Microsoft's Freelancer -- but in 2D, open source, and all items and areas are randomly generated, much like my previous 3059 game.

I'm taking special considerations for the following points:

* effeciency -- I want the game to run good on older computers
* smart AI -- I want CPU controlled ship's behavior to be believeable
* continuity -- ships that go off screen don't "disappear", and ships don't appear in empty space
* replayability -- everything is randomly generated, areas are diverse, and ship/item choices are complete
* extendable -- the game will be open source and easy to play with, in addition, adding graphics/sounds is as easy as placing the image/sound in its proper directory

This game uses the ArcGames library, and uses OpenGL.

Sounds great!

I've always had a soft spot for space simulations... usually of the 3D variety, but this looks quite promising too.

Good luck on your project!

Yeah, don't we all wish we could make 3D games just as easy as 2D ones Smile

The interesting thing is -- Microsoft's FreeLancer is very flat, the "universe" the player flies around in is all in one plane, so I believe I can get away with 2D Smile

Heh... now that you mention it, you're right. I never really thought about Freelancer that way. But all the stations, all the planets, do indeed seem to be accessed on one aspect only.

Funny how they fool people that way. Good point!
