Yo,
I'm thinking that our six existing categories are getting stretched thin. We currently have:
* Server Resources
* Development Tools
* Libraries - GUI
* Libraries - System
* Games
* Misc Apps
Any other ideas?
* Bindings
* ??

* Ports?
* Libraries - data ? |

I'd suggest:
- Libraries - Misc (to prevent the other library categories being filled with projects that don't quite fit)
- Editors/IDEs (not sure what this should be called; separates out compile/build/debug tools from the higher-level stuff)
I'm sure there are plenty more that would be appropriate, but I'm going under the knife tomorrow, so I probably should get some sleep! |

Let's go through what we have so far...
Server Resources
This is likely to remain relatively small. It can stay as-is.
Development Tools
This is becoming extremely crowded. Maybe it should be split as follows:
Compilers, Compiler Tools, and Interpreters
Libraries-GUI
This is small, but it could be better. Maybe:
Libraries-System
This one is starting to get big, too. How about:
Dedicated Libraries (better name though?)
Operating System Libraries
Games
This looks good, especially with the engines taken out.
Misc. Apps
Not much that can be done about this one. There will always be ones that don't fit in anywhere else. Bindings should either be moved here or expanded into its own category though.
That said, it would be extremely nice if libraries were sorted alphabetically within each category and if inactive projects were either on a different page or marked as such on the projects page. Either of those would make it far easier to find desired projects. |

well, you've added another level of categories, which I don't necessarily like.
As for your requests on the project page itself, the recent switch to ajax calls will help achieve this. I'd even like to get to where you could put your favorite projects in a list somewhere and always see those at the top. |

It doesn't need to be multi-level. That was simply to make it easier to see the existing system vs. my idea, as well as highlight where the current system is starting to be stretched thin.

That's great to hear! That should make dsource a lot more user-friendly! |

Would you like me to put together a list of obviously inactive projects (i.e. ones stated as such by the maintainer) before new categories are put in place, or were you intending to review each project for placement in the new categories anyway?
[EDIT]
Ok, I see many of them have already had their forums retired to the 'Inactive' section. Are they to be moved to a similar section on the projects page, removed completely, flagged as inactive... or...?

I'd like to see...
* Libraries - Game
* Text processing development tools
- scripting langs
- bcd
- parser's
- language/grammar tools
- source code converters
* Debugging development tools
And jpelcis, Arc is a 2d game library which will happen to sport a GUI |
