Hi guys,

I'm working on setting up the Trac environment for Walnut. A bunch of problems:

http://www.dsource.org/site/trac
1) On the above page, the "ProjectInfo?" Macro link doesn't work.

2) I can't find the trac.ini file

3) I can't seem to upload anything.

4) The themes page is quite broken; not showing any viable themes, but a touch of css that seems to make the layout break.

I saw lots of stuff about cygin and installing various programs on my computer like trac, subversion, wiki, and stuff like that.

5) What do I really need to install to be able to upload files?

6) Edit the trac.ini file?

Thanks,
Dan

Oh yeah, and the forums still list Walnut as inactive, and as "an enhancement to dmdscript".

What's the error? I haven't checked on its health in a while.

You don't need to.

Code? use a SVN client.

Not active yet. Tango is the only project with an alternate theme so far.

If by upload, you mean commit code, see the 'Site' tab at the top-right of each page, and look for SVN clients.

Again, you shouldn't need to. All your configurable options are in the Admin page

The problem is that the link took me here: http://www.dsource.org/wiki/ProjectInfo
Which says the page is not found.

Oh, that looks like a auto-wiki-link for a page that hasn't been created. Since I suspect I've not meant to be a link, Brad just needs to use "!ProjectInfo" (or something like that) to disable the link.

that shouldn't be a link. I've put a ! in front of it to stop Trac wiki from turning it in to a link. Thx

Oh crap. Embarassed

Brad, I've done something wrong with SVN, and it's gone on the blitz doing the wrong thing. I've decided I don't like it. It doesn't make sense. I just tried to upload the files I had, and it did weirdness.

Can you fix it?

I figured out how I want the folders to look, with the trunk/branches, etc.
I have a backup copy on my hard-drive, and I'd be perfectly comfortable with ftp. SVN has this weird import/export/repository concept.

I'm thinking "export" means download, "import" means upload, and "create repository" causes a folder to be mirrored?

How do I delete files from the online folder?

You're going to need to get real up close and personal with this. Sorry, but everyone else has ...

You shouldn't need to import/export anything, or create any repositories since everything you need is already set up in the Walnut repository. All you need do is checkout the current source tree, make the changes you need, and commit them. If you are on Windows, I recommend TortoiseSVN. SVN is already easy to use (compared to other version control systems, like CVS), but TortoiseSVN makes it even easier.

If you have screwed something up, you can revert to an earlier revision. The Subversion Book should contain everything you need to know.

Which program are you using to manipulate the SVN? Any of them should work, but I think that TortoiseSVN makes the most sense to me. It's all GUI.

There is a learning curve with SVN, but it's not that bad. I think you just got off on the wrong foot with it. And like aldacron mentioned, there's a function for reverting to an earlier revision. SVN is designed to be hard to mess up and easy to fix.

Okay, so I need to revert to an earlier version, and then simply check out some old code, and then check in some new code...

no imports, exports or setting up repositories. : p

Good, I always thought repositories were for old men getting a colonoscopy.

I'll try to learn what I can about it.

Sorry Brad.

Okay, I've sort of repaired the SVN repository on dsource.org/

Now I'm just going to be extra careful making changes and study what I'm doing in SVN until I've got it. : p

I still haven't figured out how to revert, but I've checked out, updated and committed using tortoiseSVN.

Yeah, it looks like you're on the right track now.

One thing that I noticed was that you probably want to leave the .obj folders out of the repository. You can include the directory itself, but if you include the actual .obj files you might find that you're wasting a lot of time transmitting new .obj files every time you make some changes. And people probably expect to run DMD themselves to create their own .obj files, too. That's just a suggestion, though.
