Eventually there should be a real "version(Carbon)" port,
but in the interim one can install X11 and Fink and use
the (horribly ugly, but somewhat functional) Motif version:
There does seem to be a lot of work involved, with menus
inheriting from windows and other such non-portable stuff.
Certainly not impossible, but I don't have the time to do it... |

Excellent! I'm glad you got something on the Mac. I've been meaning to start that Carbon port but I don't have a Mac at home so it hasn't moved to the front-burner.

I shouldn't have menus inheriting from Window but it is true that each Window has a menubar and Macs only have one "true" menubar. I was going to do something like what Java does and have the menubar change when a window with a menubar gets focus. Windows can share menubars or can not have a menu bar and that will mean the menu bar is unchanged.
I tried to make the infrastructure robust to the Mac's way of dealing with windows and controls (ie: controls on the Mac don't have a common base type as a top-level window like a Windows HWND or a Motif Widget). I really should start that Carbon port just to make sure I haven't hosed that part. |
